Recap of Day 6: Teacher's Reflection

Everyone who is listening to my reflection right now would agree with me that when we were just a student; we all have a favorite teacher and how we wish as a student that we are our teacher's pet. My reflection today is dedicated to my favorite CLE teacher when I was in third year high school at Notre Dame of Marbel University High School Boys' Department. Her name is Ms. Bernabe. In the course of our educational experiences, there are the many teachers who are good, the few teachers who are great and the handful of teachers we will never forget and I guess, Ms. Bernabe is a kind of teacher that I will never forget. Perhaps, you will ask me why? Like the story of starfish, he made a big impact and difference to my life. Even though that I am not an A student, he put her trust on me to be a catechist in our adopted public school that time during our MWF club period. After teaching she will pat my shoulder and as a reward for me aside from saying "Job well done Lito, she will exempt me in our quizzes. Though the task that was given to me by her was not a big deal on her part, for me it was such an honor and great privilege to be a student teacher. That experience encouraged me to become what I am right now. She inspired me in many ways; her instruction as well as her strategies became my tool as I journey through my teaching career. That particular experience not only molds me to be a teacher but instead it taught me the importance of sharing your life for others. Favoritism is not a teacher factor... every people in this world have this thing you called favoritism... in short, FAVORITISM is for everybody...and these also includes students who also have their favorite teachers.

Every teacher is an authority of his mastered field, hence if you are liked by the student, every word you speak is considered as a credible point, and if students are enabled to be enlightened and directed, these words will be kept inspirational and can be handed down as a permanent heritage. To Ms. Bernabe thank you very much for sharing your life with me. Though it's been 18 years now, the day that you pick me up in the sands of the shores along the many starfish made me unique and special in my own little way.

      The 5th Day Training: A Teacher's Reflection

The 4th Day Training Recap: A Teacher's Reflection

I could say that we are so fortunate to have an In-Service Training like this.  It is different from what we did in the previous before the school year orientation We are not just trained to be educators but we are also enlightened spiritually.  I remember Fr. Bilai's words  in his food for thoughts to teachers that day: "We should think good, do good and God will be very good to us".

We want to think good and do good for our students.  We want to be come role models. We pray the God would be pleased and keep us blessed always.

      A Recap of Day 3 : Teacher's Reflection

A day of smile the way I saw the Josephian community because we started the day with the blessing of the light The Luminous Mystery) and a song "Its a beautiful day".  An inspiration we had to maintain the beautiful day through a song in our lips every time we started to walk and to gather.  A positive atmosphere in different faces.  A good day to see the goodness of God in all of us.  Be creative... be innovative... be positive.

The Second Day of the Pre-School Year Orientation - A Teacher's Account

The day begins with a rosary followed by a community building activity.  After the opening rituals, the principal immediately went through a YOU TUBE presentation of training videos on NO TEACHER LEFT BEHIND by Bryan Feese; and the Art of Teaching by Neil Smith of Vancouver University.

The videos explains that the creation of a great teacher needs the support of the community.  The creativity of a teacher is a great tool in teaching.  To know the needs and interests of learners is a guide for teachers in decision making.  The generation of today is not our generation we have to reprogram ourselves in order not to overlook the styles of learning of the current clientele in school.  Educate our mind; and educate also our heart.

The First Day of The Teacher Training and Orientation - A Teacher's Account

Hello... the first day of our teacher orientation began with a wonderful prayer in the morning.  After the prayer, teachers of both grade school and high school had a wonderful time together for play after a long vacation.

Later, an overview was done on the month long activity.  Week 1 deals more on the Preparation for Teaching; Week 2 on Presenting Instruction; Week 3 explores organizing and managing instruction; week 4 on considering learners' needs; week 5 is on the evaluation of student performance and the last week will focus on the ways to improve teaching....

What makes the activities different is the fact that it maximizes the use of technology and internet to gain sources for education and teacher training.  The expense of tapping live resource speakers cannot be afforded by the institution.  The organizers came out with a plan to use the YOUTUBE site for topics that relate to the weekly learning goals.

Though topics presented did not consume much of an hour; still it was enlightening and informative.  Videos presented more  of the classroom practices as seen in actual situation.  Experiences shared by practitioners gave a valuable input for the teacher participants.  I guess the fact that we were able to gain world class resource sites was more than enough to say that its more than tapping local resources who ordinarily copies ideas from foreign sites.

What's really heartwarming and fulfilling at the end of the day was the Father Chaplain's spiritual sharing on what transpired during the day... Fr Bilai's talk may be short but it is full of wisdom and it connects the teachers mind to how their work relates well to their Christian role as educators.  Failing to plan is planning to fail....

This is how it is seen...
